Lesson 5

Introduction

Lesson 5

***Learning Target: Investigate patterns in vertical and horizontal lines, and interpret points on the plane as distances from the axes.

  1. 1.       Watch Video: stop at 4:20 in the video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be39i550HO4 (stop the video at 4:20 )

  1. 2.       Try and complete the remaining problem set without the video. If you need to refer to it feel free, but try and use it just a little. (Talk and work with a partner if you wish)

  1. 3.       Check your problem set carefully: http://www.oakdale.k12.ca.us/ENY_Math5_M6Lessons

  1. 4.       Wave at your teacher, make sure she waves back
  2. 5.       Answer these questions or do what is asked:
  • In Problem 1, what’s the relationship of line e to the x-axis and y-axis?  Explain to a partner.
  • Explain to a partner how you solved Problem 1(f)
  • In Problem 3, how did you know that the points were on a line that was not parallel to x?  For the lines that were parallel to x, what was the distance of every point on those lines from the x-axis?
  •
  1. 6.  Complete Exit Ticket by yourself and hand in

How will I and you know you met the objective (understand it)?

If you get a 3 or 4 on your exit ticket

Answer and complete questions and activities above.

If you can’t answer these questions review the video or do some more research.
