Learning about Matter

Introduction

This webquest tends to give students tools to discover information about the topic: Matter. It is designed for grade 3 students. Its main objectives are:

Locate information on each topic related to matter or question researched, using more than one  source.

  • Compare and contrast the different materials.
  • Analyze the three states solid, liquid and gas.
  • Collect information on a clearly defined topic and organize the information by means of a quiz.

Task

You are about to travel into the topic Matter.  You are going on a trip into different wepages so you will be able to understand that Matter Matters!  Are you ready to learn all about Matter?

First, read the information in the webpage, after that listen to the videos.

Finally, complete the online quiz to see how much you have learnt.

Enjoy and have fun with sciences.

When you finish reading and watching all videos, go to the webpage and do the Quiz:

Process

Follow the instructions:

Learn the vocabulary by clicking here: http://www.studystack.com/flashcard-994973

First,  read the information that appears in the web page (see credits). After that  watch the videos related to the topics (see credits ). Finally, do the quiz.

Activity for the second session:

Draw a picture to show the class what you have learnt so far.

  The student shows complete evidence of understanding states of matter.

3

  The student shows evidence of understanding states of matter, but not being   advanced in the concept.

2

  The student understands some about states of matter, but not enough to be   proficient.

1

  The student shows no evidence of understanding the concept taught.

Conclusion

As you could see Matter is everywhere and it is very important  to know about it.

After doing all these activities you are able to explain and understand:

- That matter is everything that exists;

- That matter is in three stages (solid. liquid and gas);

- That matter has volume and mass;

- The changes of state in water;

- The mixtures and different process of separating mixtures;

- All about rubbish recycling.

Now keep learning about sciences and you will discover many interesting topics!
