Learning About Blogs!

Introduction

Are you ready to learn about blogs?

This webquest will take you through blog examples and will set you on your journey to being a blog master! This will also prepare you for your independent novel assignment which requires you to write a blog from the perspective of a character from your novel. Don't forget the blog assignment is due on March 21st!

Today's Learning Targets:

  • I can understand the purpose and format of blogs.

  • I can show my understanding of the character and setting of my independent Novel
Task

Let's start your quest! Copy and paste these questions in a Google Doc, or fill in your answers on the handout. Your answers will be handed in at the end of classes via sharing your Google Doc or handing your question sheet into the bin. Please ensure that your answers get handed into me either by email or by handing your paper into the bin.

Process

Step One:

Visit at least three of the blogs listed below, choosing ones that match your personal interests. As
you surf through the content, notice the style of the writing, the format of the posts, and the special
features and details that attract your attention.

Step Two:

Now, go back to your favorite blog and answer the following questions.

1. Which blog is your favorite? _____________________________

2. What are the posts about and how did the author(s) format them?

3. What kinds of features are on the side bar?

4. How does this blog make use of graphic design?

5. Are there links included on the blog? How do the links relate to the content?

6. Are there photos or other kinds of graphics on the blog? How do they relate to the content?

7. List at least three features you noticed on blogs during this WebQuest that you would like to
have on a blog of your own design.

Step Three:

  • Create a Fakebook account for one of the main characters in the novel you are reading. This will help you with your future blog assignment as you will need to  analyze the main character and setting of your novel.
  • Use http://www.classtools.net/FB/home-page to create your faceobok page. Include a picture of what your character might look like, a cover photo they would like, one post they may have submitted, friends they would have, and in the "about section" input any background information you know so far about your character.
  • See this examples of Harry Potter's Fakebook to help you out: http://www.classtools.net/FB/1555-TzuqGh
  • Send me the link for your Fakebook. These will also be shared with a partner later on in the class!
