Introduction
Hello Boys and Girls! During the next five days, we will explore all aspects of Social studies. We will cover American History to World History, to Civics, Geography, and Economics. There are many resources that you can use, including technology such as the computer. Be sure to follow all the directions, and have fun!
Essential Questions
Day 1: What can we learn from using a timeline?
Day 2: How are holidays that are celebrated today different then in the past?
Day 3: What symbols do we use to represent the United States?
Day 4: How we use a map in our everyday lives?
Day 5:What is the difference between needs and wants?
Task
Monday: American History
-Students will create their own personal timelines.
Tuesday: World History
-Students will make a chart using pictures to show foods that were eaten at the first Thanksgiving and then foods they like to eat at Thanksgiving.
Wednesday: Civics/Government
- Students will design their own flags, using things to represent themselves.
Thursday: Geography
- Students will create a map of his/her school.
Friday: Economics
- Students will create a list of "needs" and "wants."
Process

Day 1: Timeline

1. Create a title for your timeline.
2. Start your timelines on the day you were born.
3. Add at least 5-10 other important events that have happened to you.
Example: First tooth, first day of school, siblings, etc.
4.Be sure to have a hard copy of your timeline.
5. Use magazine pictures and cut out to illustrate your timeline.
6. Present your timeline to the class when finished.
Day 2: Thanksgiving, Now and Then

1. Everyone must watch video about Thanksgiving.
2. Fold a piece of paper in half to make a chart, each student should have their own chart.
3. One side of the paper should be labeled First Thanksgiving and the other side is My Thanksgiving. Under each label, students will draw pictures of the foods eaten.
4. Names go on the back of your chart, and then turn them into Miss Riebel.
Day 3: Personal Flag

1. Watch the video about US symbols.
2. Now create your own flag, a flag that has symbols that represent you.
3. Present your flag and symbols with the rest of the class.
4. Write you name on the back of your flag then turn it into Miss Riebel.
Day 4: School Map

1. Watch video on maps.
2. In groups of two or three, create a map of your school.
3. Remember to include the library, Principal's office, playground, nurse's office, our classroom, the gym, lunchroom, etc.
4.Make sure your name is on your map and turn into Miss Riebel.
Day 5: Needs and Wants

1. Watch video on needs and wants.
2. Fold a piece of paper in half, label one side needs and the other wants.
3. Create a list of at least 5 "wants." Students may use pictures or words.
4. Create another list of at least 5 "needs." Students may use pictures or words.
5. Remember to write your name on the back of your chart, and turn it in to Miss Riebel when finished.
