Kazakhstan's National parks and reserves

Introduction

Kazakhstan has 9th the largest territory in the world (2,724,900km2), with the population of only 17 million. Major part of the country are horizonless steppes, deserts and mountains that house thousands species of animals and birds. The nature of Kazakhstan is various, its desert massive is immense and its mountain peaks are high and harsh. The country’s flora and fauna are represented by various species of rare and unique animals and plants, many of which are entered in the Red Book. I would like you to know more about it and see different breathtaking places yourself.

Task

Your task is going to be very simple, but interesting at the same time. 

  • Working in groups of 4, you will research Kazakhstan's National parks and reserves.  You must answer the following questions:    

1.  How many parks and reserves are in Kazakstan?

2.  Where are they located?

3.  What type of climate is in each of them?

4.  What kind of animals live there?

5.  What do they eat?

6.  Which one is your favourite? 

  • Task 1 

After answering the questions, your group will create a flyer that will be posted throughout the city.  Each flyer must include pictures or maps of different parks and reserves.  You must include the answers to the questions on the flyer. Be creative.  Creativity will be rewarded.

  •  Task 2

Each group member will write a story.  Pick one of the parks and describe an imagenary adventure in this park.  What events happened?

Evaluation

Task 1:  Flyer will be graded by participation of all group members.  All students must work together to create the flyer.  

Task 2:  The story will be graded by a rubric.  Make sure to include a catchy introduction and to proofread for any grammar or punctuation errors.  Relate your story to the topic and stay on topic.

At the end of this task students will be able to talk about Kazakhstan's nature and will be familiar with the vocabulary
