Do YOU like JIGSAW puzzles???

It's pretty fun to put the pieces together and see what you get, don't you think??

What if i told you the Earth is like a huge jigsaw Puzzle?

Do YOU know

what these

plates do?????

Task

Tasks:

The goals for the Web Quest include:

  • Understanding the theory over Plate tectonics
  • Being able to define the different plate types
  • Knowing what each plate movement results in

The tasks involve:

  • Finding the answers to the questions in the process section
  • Navigating this Web Quest in order to get the most information about plate tectonics

This webquest is made for anyone wanting to know general knowledge about plate tectonics, either as a group or individually.

Think about this!

"Pangaea (sometimes spelled Pangea), the most recent of a series of supercontinents on Earth, formed about 270 million years ago and broke apart about 200 million years ago."

How long did it take for it to break apart?

There was living things throughout this period! The world was changing so much around them and into the world we now have today!

Process

The links on this page will help you complete your tasks for this webquest!

Task #1: Plate Tectonic Theory
* While exploring these websites, ask yourself:

- What was the Supercontinent called?
- What evidence supports the Supercontinent theory?

Task #2: Plate Boundaries
* Use these websites to describe the difference between the three types of plate boundaries.
- What are the features of a Convergent plate boundary?
- What are the features of a Divergent plate boundary?
- What are the features of a Transform plate boundary?
Click here to review, then play the Plates & Boundaries Challenge at the bottom of the page to test your skills!

Task #3: Effects of Plate Activity
* Use this website to answer the following questions:
- What kind of plate boundary forms a mountain?
- What kind of plate boundary is probably responsible for a natural rift such as the Grand Canyon?
* Then, use this website to decribe how a volcano is formed.

Evaluation

There is two rubrics available for evaluation. Please make sure you fill out the correct one.

Conclusion

Congratulations on completing this issued task and understanding the theory of plate tectonics! WOOHOO!

This includes

  • the effects of plate activity
  • different types of plate boundries
  • future of plate tectonics

We have learned important facts about how plate tectonics are important and also learning about how much our world is changing. It is interesting to research where our earth is the most active. We have learned about how unique our planet is. We are better informed now then ever before and will keep on improving with time!
