Internet Safety for Third Grade

Introduction

The internet is an exciting place to find information, but you need to learn how to use it safely. This web quest introduces you to important safety rules that should be followed when learning how to use the internet.

Task

For this webquest you will be working with a partner

At the end of this WebQuest, you should: 

  • Be well educated on how to search the internet safetly. 
  • Complete the 5 online safety rules poster. 
  • Know the basic internet safety behaviors of using the internet at home and school.
  • Help Captain Broadband save his city and earn your certificate. 

 

Process

First, Go to Brainpop and watch the internet safety video. Just click this link.  https://www.brainpop.com/technology/digitalcitizenship/onlinesafety/   Take notes during the video.....you can pause the video while you write down the safety rules. 

Second, after you have watched the video click on Activity. You will then complete the Catagorize It and Think about It page. 

Third, on that same page click on Graphic Organizer. You and your partner will complete the 5 internet safety rules. Print this page out when you are finished. You will use this to make your poster. 

Next, you are going to help Captain Broadband save his city. Click Here Safety Land and follow the instructions. At the end you will receive your Super Hero Internet Safety certificate. 

Finally, you will use the 5 internet safety rules you printed off to make a poster.  This is your creation, so use lots of color and graphics (pictures).

Evaluation

 

This WebQuest is designed to help you learn important lesson for your own internet safety.  

To show completion of the WebQuest you need to Complete the four items below:

1. Brainpop Activity and Graphic Organizer completed and printed. 

2. Save the City and print your Certificate. 

3. Create a poster of your "Top Five Rules of Internet Safety" completed

4.  Work with your partner, and follow the social contract.

This web quest introduces elementary aged students to the important safety rules that should be followed while learning how to use the internet. My hope is that by introducing this web quest students will be able to enjoy technology in the classroom and at home.
