Internet Safety

Introduction

In this WebQuest, your team will individually research how to be safe using different kinds of online activity. Then, together you will create a helpful and hopefully fun presentation to teach our baby bears how to be safe online.

Task

Your team will jump into a character and conduct individual research to compile into a team presentation promoting internet safety.

Each team member will be assigned one of the following characters to research and become for your presentation:

Social Media Sally/Sam

Ted/Tammy the Texter

Gamer Greg/Grace

Cyberbully Sylvie/Cy

You will work in teams of four to create a presentation in PowerPoint, Slides or Canva to present to your classmates and possibly younger students. Your presentation must be 4-5 minutes in length.

Process

Each group member must start by watching these two short videos on technology safety:

https://www.onguardonline.gov/media/video-0002-heads-stop-think-click

https://www.onguardonline.gov/media/video-0005-stand-cyberbullying

Now that you have watched the short introduction videos it's time to get into character and research your assigned topic. Below you will find your character's questions and resources your character might use to answer them.

Once your teammates have answered their character's questions, you will come together to create your presentation. Use all the gathered information in your presentation. BE CREATIVE! You may add video clips to reinforce, but not replace your own words. EACH team member must present their research. EVERYONE must be a part of the presenting process!

When your team has created your presentation and practiced presenting, you may play any of the internet safety games below or watch more videos on internet safety at http://www.netsmartz.org/NSTeens.
