You have been selected to become a musical instrument inventor!
This Web Quest will take to the world of Instruments’ Land by visiting “The New York Philharmonic” to learn about musical instruments and create your own at the instrument lab! Check out the instrument storage room of the famous musicians to know what instruments they played!
Students will be able to:
- Identify and recognize the four instrument families: woodwinds, brass, strings and percussion by matching at list three musical instruments with the corresponding family in the worksheet #1 with 75% within the rubric.
- Recall in worksheet (#2) two or three complete sentences (for each of the three instrument family mentioned) including at least two or three characteristics that musical instruments have within a family such as brass, percussion and strings family with at least 75% within the rubric
- Compose a paragraph giving their opinion by answering three questions in the worksheet #3 with 75% in the rubric
Task

Hello future musical instrument inventor!
Today you are going on a virtual field trip to be immersed in the world of music, a world of sound and imagination. The "New York Philharmonic" is the place you are going to:
- Play games to learn about instruments in the game room
- Navigate around the instrument storage room to learn where instruments are stored and how they are classified.
- Learn about how certain instruments are similar and the reasons of their classification.
- Use your creativity to make you own instrument at the instrument lab.

TASK
First of all!
You are going to click on "The New York Philharmonic" to be transported to a new land: The Instrument Land.

- After completing task 1 and 2 complete worksheet # 1
1. Place your mouse on the game room tab and click on "instrument FRENZY"
Observe how instruments fall in the correct box (the corresponding instrument family)
2. Now click on the "Music Match” Instruments” tab.
Flip cards and find the ones the match the one you uncovered. (answer worksheet #1)
- After visiting the instrument storage room complete worksheet # 2
3. Click on "instrument storage room"
Place your mouse without clicking in front of the boy, move you mouse forward (he will walk).
Stop and click in the instruments to see a description of each within an instrument family.

- After completing task 4, conclude by writing a paragraph in worksheet #3
4. Click at "instrument lab"
Walk around and observe, choose materials and make your own instrument! After creating your instrument, explain your opinion in a written paragraph with the information from the answered on worksheet #3

If you finish early:

Objective:
After completing the virtual field trip, the students will identify musical instruments by matching them with the right instrument family. After they will be able to compare and contrast what instruments have and common. Then, they will write a paragraph on their elaborated own instrument.
Assessments:
After students use the computers in the classroom to navigate through the "New York Philharmonic" they will be assess on participation: While navigating during the virtual field tripwith. They will also be assess with worksheets (see Evaluation link) that require information on instruments and their corresponding family instrument, similarities beetween instrument and a final creation of your own instrument. These worksheets and participation will be grade within al components in the rubric with at least 75% accuracy.
