Introduction
Have you ever wondered where our holiday traditions come from? Have you ever been curious as to why we put lights on our houses during Christmas or some of us celebrate different holidays than others? Well, in this assignment, you will get all the answers to your questions!
Task
Students will get into pairs to research four different holidays in December: Christmas, Hanukkah, Las Posadas, and Kwanzaa. Part of the research will require each student to interview one member of their family about the traditions they have celebrated in December.
Once both partners have interviewed a family member, they will collaborate on traditions and come up with a NEW holiday to be celebrated in December.
Students will make a poster to present to the class a week from today, October 27, 2015.
Process
In order to complete this efficiently, students must gain a good amount of information from their family member.
Questions to ask may include:
- Why do you celebrate this holiday and not another?
- How long have you been celebrating this holiday?
- Have you ever celebrated any other holiday in December?
Once you have gathered these questions (and questions of your own), you and your partner will share the responses you were given and then collaborate on a new holiday.
You can combine different holidays to make a new one, it really is up to you and your creative ideas!!
