Healthy School Lunch

Introduction

The nutritional value of school lunches has gotten worse and worse over the past few years. Children often spend their lunch time eating only cookies, candy bars, or potato chips. These unhealthy lunches are causing American children to become unfit, poorly nourished, and easily tired. Your job today is to work with a team of others to create a school lunch menu consisting of 3 nutritious meals.

After we all have a general knowledge of a nutritious diet, the food pyramid, and number of servings from each a day, we will divide into groups to take a closer look and apply the information. Based on what you have learned you will create a menu filled with healthy foods that everyone will enjoy!

Task

Your task is to investigate several aspects of a nutritious school lunch and create a menu that everyone will enjoy. These menus will be shared with the class and proposed for actual use by the school cafeteria by creating a google slides presentation.

Process

Day 1:

You will be put into groups of 3. Each group member will be resopnsible for creating one healthy meal for the school lunch menu. It should also contain all 5 food groups. On day one you will first refresh your understanding of My Plate and what it means. Go to the following website: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/fodd-groups/  and spend about 5 minutes looking at the items in each of the food groups.be using the following websites to research healthy recipe ideas for you menu.

Then, go to the Blast Off game and play the game to see if you can properly fuel the body for the day.

Finally, begin searching websites for healthy recipes for your meal. Remember to write down the name of the recipe as well as the ingredients so you can add them to your final presentation. Before you decide to add a recipe to your menu ask yourself: Does it have fruits or vegetables, does it have a lot of sugar, could I find a healthier choice? You need to decide on one meal for your part of the menu.

Each member should check the final presentation for grammar and spelling errors. ONLY THEN SHOULD IMAGES BE ADDED.

Day 3: Your group will share their presentation to the assignemnt in Google classroom. Then, they will present their presentation with each member talking about the part of the menu they were responsible for creating.
