| Health fads | Details |
| Apple cider vinegar. | Apples have something called pectin in it which makes you feel fuller. |

shark cartilage: people thought that eating animal cartilage shrunk tumours and helped cure cancer.
Task
Smoking fad: Cigarettes are promoted on the Tv and are sold at most stores so there are a lot of posters in shops. I think that promoting cigarettes would be successful because people have to go shopping all the time and they are at basically all shops. I also think that promoting cigarettes would be unsuccessful because everyone knows what the negative are of smoking. The negative side effects of smoking are brain damage, loss of smell and taste, yellow teeth and cancer.
Coconut diet: The coconut diet is promoted in magazines, mainly in the health/body/fitness sections and through the Internet. I think that the marketing of the coconut diet would be very successful because people that want/need to go on a diet usually check magazines to see what diets/fads are actually working for other people because you can't always trust the Internet but most people trust the fitness sections. I think that the marketing of the coconut diet could also be unsuccessful because it is only really promoted through magazines and their are some people that don't read magazines or just skip that section. The side effects of this diet can include, flu, blood clots and severe allergic reactions.
Tape worm fad:The tapeworm fad is marketed through the Internet, magazines and has also been shown on television. I think that the marketing of the tapeworm fad would be successful in some ways because some of the shows that it has been promoted on are very popular. I also think that it could be very unsseccesful because most places it's promoted, it also has all the negatives to trying this fad, and the negatives always outshine the positives. The negatives to trying the tapeworm diet can include, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and weakness.
Out of these three health fads, I would most likely try the Coconut diet because I really like coconut and the side effects aren't as bad as the other health fads. The health fad I would least likely try is smoking because of all the side effects, how addicting it can get and it's a horrible habit to have.

This term I have learnt about what health fads actually are and I have also learnt about the type of people that usually decide to try health fads. Companies get people to try health fads by promoting them through the different sources. This could include being promoted over the Internet, through books and magazines, advertisements on the tv or even having their own segment in a show. A better strategy for good health outcomes could be to just eat healthier and excessive everyday, there shouldn't be any serious side effects from doing that.
