 A lot of people now wear smart watches and pedometers , fit bits to check heart rate, distance travelled, calories burnt and if your getting fitter and quicker.  To use as a motivator.
Green drinks and juices

Boost juices etc people are now buying fruit juices or making raw fruit juices at home or green and vegetable juices. 

People use this for nutrition, weight loss to make them feel like there living better.  People use this as a way to feel healthier quicker rather than eat a balanced diet. They can still contain high sugar 

Meatless Monday 

Going with out meat on Monday will reduce your cholesterol but as protein can fill you up if you don't replace with a good alternative people can go looking for something to fill them up.

Weight loss supplements

Weight loss tablets and weightloss drinks and bars will only work if you stay on them and don't change eating and exercising habits. They will help you loose weight but they are not long term weight loss solutions.

Gluten free and wheat free

People eat huge amounts of white bread, rice, pasta, these are processed and are not great for your health.   When not used up through exercise they can turn to sugar and fat.  But going gluten free and wheat free can be more expensive  when you may just need to cut down and change to whole wheat like brown rice.

Task

People can promote and advertises their product on an electronics such as: TV, Radio and computer ads you just can't get rid of.

   

These fads would be successful because people use electronics every day and the ads keep popping up.These fads would be unsuccessful because the promotion of the product sometimes may not appeal to the people. The three fads that I have selected are Green drinks, Meatless Monday and wearing smart watches.  The one fad I would most likely to try is Meatless Monday because it is only one day a week that I can go with out meat. The one fad I would least likely to try is the Green drink because who would drink Green drinks every day. The negative side effect of Green drinks is fatigue and lack of nutrients. Meatless Monday negative side effect of the fad is that protien can fill you up and with out a healthy alternative people will go looking for something that can. Wearing a smart watch increase the body’s exposure to radio waves therefore adding huge amounts of harmful rays to people who are already accustomed to having phones, tablets and laptops in close proximity.

Reason for going on Health Fad Spiritual practice of cleaning form relegions like Hinduism, Islan, Mahatma and christianity is believed to be the truest prayer.

Did the health fad achieve what it claimed in any way Being Spiritrual it is hard to quantify. But the damage done to the body may not be able to be turned around.  Without food and water the body needs to draw on other souces to survive.  First the glucose levels are effected and then the protein and fats in the body.  This then can send the body into a chemical imbalance called ketosis.  This is severe dehydration to the body which the body may not come back from.
Details of other similar cases  A lot of other religions practice similar spiritual fasting. But only for a shorter time period e.g 1 month.   Hira Ratan Manek claims to of lived on sun energy and water since june 18, 1995.   But many scientists have questioned his studies people can survive without food for a couple of months as long as they have water.  

Another dangerous Health Fad is the Cotton Ball diet. It is were you dip 5 cotton balls in juice, lemonade or smoothie and eat them in one sitting. The idea is to feel full without gaining weight. The risk of choking and malnutrition, and the risk of obstruction to the intestinal track.  A trapped mass in this area is called a bezoar.  The most usual causes of bezoras are swollowing indigestible matter such as hair, or too much vegetable fibre but cotton wool balls could certainly create similar problems.  Over time the cotton balls could build up and create several blockages or a full obstruction.  Either of these conditions could be life threatening.  The cotton wool diet can be found on you tube with girls aged 9 upwards using this to loose weight.  Doctors explain how dangereous this is as cotton balls are made of a synthetic cotton and bleached chemicals. Most experts feel this a mental illness like anorexia.  Beyonce high lights this in her music video "Pretty Hurts" wher she shows what girls will do to stay thin and pretty by eating cotton balls along with other things.  Cotton wool diet is linked to a mental illness called PICA where people eat objects like rocks and clay to feel full.  Many Super Models like Eddit Murphy's daughter Briar Murphy.  have said they seen this diet used my catwalk models.  Models kira Dikhtyar and Amy Lemons have said their Agencies also excouraged their monels to use this method to feel full and loose weight.  other methods are using tissues as well.  I am not able to find out the persons name but the comment below in from a web site for anorexia and shows how it is a mental illness.

    hey guys was just wondering if any of you have tried the cotton ball diet?

    I first came across it whilst searching anorexic models (as i am a model and am trying to 'loose weight') 

    so the diet is exactly as it sounds, instead of food you eat cotton balls soaked  in water (or juice). 
     

    ive done it a few times and yes it keeps me full but i get really tired and usually pass out after eating the cotton.

    please dont comment on how bad it is for you to ingest cotton balls, as i know this i mean i didn't do it to be 'healthy' and to be honest i have no respect for my body at all.

    The types of fads that  are in the show are tanning and weight loss pills. Some people can be called Sun Addicts who believe that tanning can make you look more attractive but the big problem is for these people is that it is a they can get sun cancer. Weight Loss Pills can affect you in many ways, some do what the are supposed to do and others don't. Young females are normally involved in this Fads because they want to lose weight and have dark skin. The side affects for tanning is skin cancer and aging skin and the side affects for weigh loss pills are mood swings and fatigue. 

    Tanning Interesting facts are tanning can be addictive and the risk of melanoma increases by 75%.

    Weight Loss Pills Interesting  facts are that the pills are dangerous for health and can ca long term side affects.

    Over the time, I have found many strange, dangerous and sometimes even deadly health Fads.  People think just because your following one of these fads you can improve your life, but what they don't relise or what the fads don't tell you is that some are dangereous and can ultimately kill you, or ruin your life.  From taking pills to swollowing cotton balls all because people want to be skinny.   Some of these people have mental illness issues and are doing these diets for the wrong reason rather than trying to improve their health for the right reason.  Some people just want to loose weight as quick as they can. Some of the diets would be very hard to follow for a long time you would get sick of eating the same thing all the time or never being allowed to have a treat like chocolate or cake.  You would crave these things which would make me want them more.

    Big companies can get lots of people to try Health Fads. Beautiful people telling desperate people who want to be skinny or pretty or believe their life will be better, the future will be brighter if you take these tablets, or drink this or follow this diet.  There is so much advertising on Television, magazines, on the computer trying to sell you these strange ideas.  People who want to be like the pretty person in the add.

    I believe if you ate less and eat more healthy and you exercised more your health would improve.  Not change everything the same day, but slowly added more good foods like fruit and vegetables and less processed foods and take aways and added more exercise like walking the dog or going to gym once or twice a week you would feel better.  Small changes in your life can make a big change to the future.  Exercise is good for the whole body not just for loosing weight.  Even just getting more sleep is a start.  But starting is the hardest part of any lifestyle change so small steps.  People need to change their brains  to not get stressed if they make a bad choice but stay strong and exercise it off instead of having more.
