Harm Not The Actor***Theatre Safety***WHMS Technical Theatre

Introduction

Um....Why are we learning this?

Safety - Why is it important?  What must we do to keep ourselves and our patron’s safe in the theatre?  You don't think it's a big deal?  Think again.  Before you may step onto the stage, build a set, create makeup, costume, lighting or sound designs, you need to understand the safety rules of the theatre.  If not appropriatly applied, you may put yourself and others in danger.

Through this webquest, you will learn the history of theatre safety, discover tragedies, learn how to create and promote a safety campaign and use high-level computer skills through MSWord, Publisher, and PowerPoint or use technology to create a comic strip, photoshop pictures for messages, create animated cartoons or videos - the possibilities are limitless.

Remember to visit all pages, save your work to your network folder or the website you are utilizing, and complete your daily work form when required.  Check out Products and Presentations for the requirements and look at the Rubric for how you will be graded.

So What Do I have To Do?

You and your group are creating a safety campaign for one of the theatre safety topics.  Your next step will be to go to the Safety Topics page and choose a topic.  A safety campagin MUST consist of a slogan, and/or any one of these products:  A PowerPoint Presentation, a Web-Page, or an Animated Movie or a Comic Strip or a Rap song or a skit.  Also, you will need to hand out a test for the class to complete after your presentation.  Group participation is key.  A successful group knows how to delegate the work.  Student A may be better a creating posters, while Student B is better at research and Student C really knows how to create PowerPoints.  You have one week in the lab to complete the assignment.  Presentations begin on Tuesday, September 18.

EVERYONE MUST PARTICIPATE

  • You must turn in your daily work form when required.
  • There is limited time in the computer lab.  You will not and cannot return to the lab to complete this assignment after the due date.  I will monitor your activity on the computer.
  • You will only be allowed to operate certain programs and visit certain sites.
  •  The first time you visit a site not relevant to the project's task, you will receive a warning
  • The second time you visit an irrelvant site, you will receive 10 points off your final grade.
  • The third time, you will recbe written up and sent to the office.

    • A Facebook Page or
    • An Animated Movie or

Presentations

Your Presentations.  All presentations must be uploaded to the HHS-Theatre-Upload Page - links and/or files!

http://hhstheatre-upload.wikispaces.com/

Navigate to your class page.

Ensure you name your project with your groups name and class period. Instructions are listed below.

Use this format.  1st_LastName  - This works for either a file or a web link.

Example, John Smith has theatre first period. His group creates a PowerPoint. His group names the file 1st_Smith.

Or John's group has created their project on a website- they need to rename the link in the same format.  Renaming links are very easy.  Chose the LINK Icon, choose web address on the left side menu.  Type in as follows:  1st_Smith, then paste the actual web address into the address box.

See Ms. King if you have any challenges or issues with this process.

Puzzle Links - Did you communicate well enough for others to learn?

You must create and execute a quiz for your fellow students.  This could be a word-find, crossword puzzle.  For sites where you may create these:http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/CrissCrossSetupForm.html

Daily Work Form

Don't forget to fill out your work form when required.  This is your daily work grade (and, between you and me - you need it!)

 Group Work

Your Group's Project and Presentation:

Everyone in the group must participate in the project and the presentation.  Each group member will grade the participation level of their group members.  Here are some examples of how your group could delegate the work:

Team A has 5 members.

Member 1 creates the main project components.  This could be from creating the Powerpoint, Xtranormal Film, or Web page.  During the class presentation, Member 1 runs the computer

Member 2 reserachs topics, pictures, or creates script for movie.  Member 2 narrates and introduces the project

Member 3 also researchs the topic and works on the poster design.  Member 3 shares the narration and introduction of the project

Member 4 creates the class quiz and during presentation hands out and takes up the quiz

Member 5 manages all forms, daily work, and oversees the work progress.  Member 5 displays the posters and hands in the required hard copies for the group

Members share grading the quiz

The Test

You must create and execute a quiz for your fellow students.  This could be a word-find, crossword puzzle.  For sites where you may create these:http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/CrissCrossSetupForm.html
