It is the only full scale slave uprising and stopped at nothing other than victory. The revolution turned the soon to be independent country's class order upside down. Haiti at the time Saint Domingue had many great leaders that had a very important part in the revolution. Leaders like Toussaint Louvetoure, Jean-Jacques Dessalines historians would argue that these two had the greatest impact on the Revolution. While you research you will see how the two have very different types of leading and tactics regarding the war.

Conclusion

What you should see through researching the Haitian Revolution, is that it is an incredible event. Not much attention goes into it, you may have known Toussaint but it doesn't go much farther than that. We see that the newly independent US had a direct effect on the newly freed Haiti, we see how the French Revolution was a major factor in the start of the Haitian Revolution. You should see that it wasn't just slaves getting lucky in a revolt, what started as a revolt turned into a full scale war. I wanted to do this as a way for you to see that this is a vey big piece of world history that goes overlooked.
