Introduction

Welcome to our lesson about habitats!

A habitat is the natural home of an animal, plant, or other being. 

In this lesson, we will be using videos, websites, and online resources to learn all about the habitats of the world. 

Task

  • Topic: Basic Needs of Living Things

    • This topic focuses on the physical needs of living things in Ohio. Energy from the sun or food, nutrients, water,shelter and air are some of the physical needs of living things.

    • CONTENT STATEMENT: Living things only survive in environments that meet their needs.

Process

Using this link, you will research all of the habitats. 

After you have researched all of the habitats, you will choose ONE to focus on. 

Using this link, you will find lists of animals that belong to each habitat, as well as a brief description of each habitat. 

This is another link for a quick video on habitats. 

After you have gotten enough research, you will create a presentation for the class. 

You can choose from the following options:

Characteristics of Habitats

Student provides examples of different characteristics in different types of habitats. These could be climate, animal and plant life, as well as the defined form of habitat.

Provides some explanation of what can be found in a habitat, but does not go into great depth.

Provides little to no examples of the characteristics of different habitats.

Environmental Aspects of Different Habitats

Provides the different animals and plants in the environment, as well as any information regarding climate.

Gives examples of a few plants and animals found in the environment.

Provides an example of two or fewer animals or plants that live in the environment.

Compare and Contrast Different Habitats

Provides at least three compare/contrast statements for at least three different habitats.

Provides two compare/contrast statements for two habitats.

Provides one compare/contrast statement for two habitats.

Overall Knowledge of What a Habitat Needs to Provide Life for Living Things  

Explains how a habitat affects living things, and gives examples of positive and negative relationships between living things and the habitat

Explains the relationship between a habitat and living things.

Provides little to no explanation for the relationship of living things and their habitats.

Conclusion
