Habitats of Georgia

Introduction

Calling all zookeepers! You have been chosen to help develop a zoo that will have a sample of the plants and animals from all the habitat regions of Georgia. As a biologist you must find out what kind of plants and animals live in each of the five habitat regions and what adaptations they have to live in those regions

Task

You will need to first need to find out about plants and animals that live in those regions and the features that they have that allow them to thrive there. You will need to take notes on the sheets given. You should also make a list of what you will need to include in your zoo to insure the survival of the plants and animals you chose to include in each region.

You should then draw a plan for your zoo that shows what conditions each area would have in order for the plants and animals from that region to survive there. In your zoo plans include the name of plants and animals that you want to include in each region.

Process

So what exactly do I need to do???

1. Research-by clicking on the link at the top of the page-the Coastal Plains region of Georgia. On the sheet of paper given to you by your teacher, take notes about the type of plants and animals that live in the Coastal Plains region. Write down at least 5 different types of plants that you would find in the Coastal Plains region and at least 5 different types of animals you would find in the region. You should also write down 5 things that the region must have, so that the plants and animals can survive.

2. Repeat step one with the Appalachian Plateau, and the Piedmont Region, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and then the Valley/Ridge Region.

3. Draw a map of the your plan for the zoo. You may use a large piece of drawing paper. Make sure you clearly label each region in your zoo.

4. You should illustrate each region to make it look like the actual region it represents.

5. On the back of your paper write down which 5 plants and animals you have chosen for each region and explain why the plants and animals survive in those regions.
