Grammar inside the Technology

Introduction

One of the problem with English learners is how to deal with grammar. This webquest will be about grammar for grade 11. Be honest, when you hear the word grammar, you are ready to run and hide, aren't you?

So, don't warry. We will help you to overcome all these and make you a detective grammarian by embarking you  on a journey for four weeks, using your fabulous background and knowledge about grammar where it  will be essential skills to help you discovering and deducting  the rules of grammar

By discovering and deducting the eight parts of grammar (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, prepositions, interjection, pronouns and conjunctions), you will be ready to create your recipe of the eight parts of grammar that we are focusing on during this year. This recipe will be you grammar resource where you have to cook it by using one of the interactive technologies (multimedia tools)  that would be provided for you during your journey  . So, your challenge is to create an attractive , engaging and knowledgeable grammar resource to educate your classmate the uses of the eight parts of grammar

Remember, if you add too little of ingredients, your final product may be lacking flavor. Also, if you add too much ingredients , your final product  will come across as overpowering.  So be creative and have fun!

Task

Eight parts of grammar are disappeared . They are gone! We need to find them quickly. !

The teacher has informed you that we have lost all the information about eight different parts of grammar due to a major computer virus affecting libraries and our school system.  The teacher fed up with researching. So, he is thinking  to turn the table . It is now up to you to find  the eight parts of grammar that have gone. You have to collect all the  ingredients of the eight parts and put them in one template called grammar resource  by using one of the multimedia tools . This resource that can be used by your classmates to deepen their knowledge of the functional grammar rules we have looked at this year.

Step 1 :  First you need to create your team members. Each members in your group will be specialize to do something in your project. So , you have to  sort the jobs between team members. Each one of the team completes the others in the team.

Notice : Each group will consist of three members. Each members  will be given a job description and be responsible for the following tasks.

Step 2 : Allocate each one of the group with one of the following roles

  • Content  investigator
  • Technical advisor
  • Creative advisor

Responsibilities (content investigator) : your job is to gather all the information about  the eight parts of grammar rules from the links that are provided in this webquest. Then , you have to put the basic rules of each one of the eight parts of grammar that are disappeared. Next , put a list of the basic rules for each one of the eight parts of grammar. After that, present your ideas of the rules for the group , discuss them with your group.  The teacher will provide for you a group in the facebook with the teacher where you can ask the teacher any question that are related to your mission. When you and your group make the final decision about the rules. You have to take teacher's approval before you type it as  a final script and sent it to creative advisor.

Responsibilities (Technical Advisor) : Your job is to collect all the information about five various technologies that are suitable to be used for this project. You have to put a list of advantages and disadvantages for the each one of them. Present your ideas in the facebook group that is provided by the teacher for discussion. Once the final decision is made about the best technology of the other five technologies, make sure that you have to be mastered the using of the chosen technology . Remember that you have to follow the producing of the product from the beginning  to ending and the responsible for the final editing prior to presentation . Remember that your duty is not only understand the technology, you must study the rules of grammar where it will help you for your choice of technology.

 Responsibilities (Creative Advisor) : You are the responsible to make the storyboard for your project using the interactive technology, so you have to look at other grammar resources to inspire your creativity. You have to present five grammar resources for your group to allow them to make decisions about how they will present their project . Remember that you have to follow the producing of the product from the beginning  to ending and the responsible for the creativity of the final product. Remember that your duty is not only making the storyboard , you must study the rules of grammar where it will help you for your choice of storyboard.

At the end of this webquest , students will be able to

  • Recognize the rules of the eight parts of grammar (noun, verb, adj., adv. , prepositions,  interjections, pronouns and conjunctions .
  • Use one of the multimedia tools to design a grammar resource
  • Use their imagination and critical thinking to do the task
  • Make a grammar resource as a resource for their classmates to learn grammar.  

 

Notice : you have a facebook group with the teacher where you ask your teacher any question related to your project.

 

Process

There are four sessions during  six weeks in the process for this task

Session 1

Step 1 : It will be a warming up  for all group's members. you and your partners will start by reviewing some  easy introduction of grammar rules  ( parts of speech ) to gain a better understanding about how to use them properly. The following website will help you to make you ready for your mission. All  links are games where you have to choose the correct answer between other options in the games. The 1st link will about noun, the 2nd link will be about verb, just choose the correct verb, the 3th link will be about pronouns, just multiple choices questions, the 4th link will learn you how to make a tale, just by filling the form of parts of speech and the last link is amazing , it will be a mixture of all parts of speech, you just have to choose the correct answer. All games are so funny. Just enjoy as possible as you can.

Step 2 : After refreshing your memory about the main parts of speech. I think you get the idea about the subject of you project. Now you have to allocate the roles between yourselves . One of you will be content advisor, the second is technical advisor and the third one is the creative advisor. (see *Task* to know the responsibilities for each one of these advisors )

 Step 3 : How do we start?

Content advisor : You will need to compile a list of eight parts of grammar rules (noun, verb, adjectives, adverb, preposition, conjunctions, pronouns and interjection) and their basic rules that may assist your classmates  and your project.

You will need to start by compiling a list of five multimedia tools that may assist your group with the project.

Session two  (week 3)

Step 1: What happens now?

Collaborative Meetings – Project Worksheet

In this session each one of you should bring the required information from the last work session. Each one of you will be given 20 minutes to present the information , discuss them with your group mates and make decisions about how you will proceed with your project. Remember that you can ask the teacher any question in facebook group at any time.

At the of this session, you will make a decision about the type of multimedia tool that will be used in your project. Also, the content will be included and you have to start a plan of action to assign tasks and continue the work flow .

Remember that your plan of action will be completed on a word document and emailed to your teacher by the end of this session.

If you need any special technical equipment for your sessions please see your teacher in advance of each working session to make sure that the equipment is available.

Notice : when you are working collaborative , you should be patient and listen to what your group mates are saying , try to find the solutions of any issue between yourselves before asking the teacher.

Conclusion

Grammar is not difficult . If it is difficult , may you are who make it hard to learn. In grammar , noun ,verb ,adjectives and adverb,,,,, are the essential parts in constructing sentences. To make ourselves accurate and fluent  English speaker and writer , we have to recognize all these parts. Also , using one of the multimedia tools to make a grammar resource reflects your understanding to the  rules of grammar.

However, at the end of this activity the students are supposed to understand the main points of English Grammar. I think  these kinds of activities will help the students to memorize better the rules of grammar and the opportunity to interact with other students. Besides these activities,  result will be much more attractive for the students and it is likely that they will pay more attention to those partners that are speaking . On the other hand, the students will be grateful if they are given a different way to explain grammar in a different way. This is a good way to make students feel comfortable with English and also to bring this language next to them.

Now , after all these,  I am sure that you can think of a time when you have heard someone using grammar wrong or got an essay back from your teacher and it was all marked up with grammar corrections.  Now, you should have a good grasp on the basics of grammar to move on to the next level! This webquest is about grammar and how to get the benefit of using the technology where technology is considered  as a human endeavor . We know that technology influences and impacts on people, their communities and environments ,so using it in education field can make the learning attractive and appealing and make students willing to learn and educate.
