Freak the Mighty Webquest

Introduction

This webquest was designed as a culminating activity on the novel FREAK THE MIGHTY. Students use this inquiry-based tool to enhance their understanding of the novel and the various concepts discussed throughout.

Introduction

You will embark upon a quest using technology that will take you into, through, and beyond Freak the Mighty. Through this WebQuest, you will discover the meaning of true friendship,recognize the worth in all people, and the importance of positive self concept as you gain a deeper understanding of our characters.

Task

For this journey, you will be required to complete many tasks in order to slay 4 dragons!

At each step in the process, you will either watch videos or search websites to conduct your research.  At the end of the WebQuest, you will create a poster to display your new knowledge. You will also create a Works Cited page to cite your sources.

Task 1:

Freak and Max refer often to the quests of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. To complete this task, you will journey to the land of King Arthur to better understand the significance of these quests.

In the opening pages of the story, it becomes readily apparent that appearances can be deceiving. For example, even though Max is a large person, he does not like to fight; he is quite different from the bullies he confronts. Compare the outward appearance of Max, Kevin, Loretta Lee, Killer Kane, and Iggy with their inner selves.

This webquest has been designed as a culminating activity for the novel FREAK THE MIGHTY. Students will use this inquiry-based tool to enhance their understanding of the novel. Students will be asked to synthesize material from a wide range of sources, as well as evaluating the information gleaned from the novel.

At the end of this WebQuest, students will not only have a greater understanding of characterization, themes, and inferencing, but will also understand the negative effects of bullying, the value in all people, and the importance of positive self concept.
