Food Chain: Producers, Consumers and Decompers

Introduction

Today you will be learning about the food chain.

You will learn how the food chain starts and who and or what is included in the food chain.  You will learn about a producer, consumer, and a decomposer.  Once you learn about those in the food chain you will be able to write about it and act out your writings.

Here is what you will need to know about the food chain and who and what is a part of it and why it is important.

Producers are creatures that makes its own food.  An example of a producer is a plant.

A consumer is a creature who eats the food that is made by someone else.

There are two types of comsumers:

The first consumer is a herbivore who eats plants.

The second consumer is a carnivore who eats herbivores.

A decomposer eats the waste and the dead things and releases the energy back into the earth

Task

You will get into groups of three (already selected by teacher)

First: Each person in the group will write a paragraph about the food chain in thier own words and describe the food chain by selecting a plant to be, a herbivore and a carnivore.

Each group will have a task to write a script that has a producer, first level consumer and second level consumer.  Be sure to have the feelings of each character in the script.

Second:  Each group will draw a mask for thier character using paper plates.

Third:  Each group will come to the front and act out thier skit.

So within your group decide who will be the producer, who will be the herbivore and who will be the carnivore.

You will each write a paragraph that explains the role of a producer, a first level consumer and a second level consumer.
