The Explorers

Introduction

Without explorers of the past (and present) our world and what we know of it would not be the same. Explorers play(Ed) a very important role in the development of countries, governments and cultures. 

Task

Your task is to learn as much as you can about your explorer and how their explorations helped to shape a country, culture and/or government. 

Once you have located information about your explorer, you will create a presentation to share your knowledge with your classmates. 

Process

How to do this:

1. use the links below to locate information about your explorer. Information to gather includes:

- country of origin

-country they explored for

-where they traveled

-lands they claimed

-how their explorations changed/enhanced a country

-what effect did their exploration have on the culture of the people

- what effect did their exploration have on the government 

-what was the goal for their explorations (political, to find new land, to find goods, etc.)

- were they successful

- 5 additional facts about the explorer

2. Create/include a map of the the exploration routes your explorer took.

3. Include a short writing detailing what the effects of your explorer's explorations were for the development of new governments. cultures, trade, lands, etc. What would have happened if your explorer did not complete his explorations?

4. Create a song, letter or newspaper article that either details the explorations your explorer took or  tries to entice others to join your explorer.

5. Using your newly acquired knowledge, create a presentation to share your knowledge with your classmates. Your presentation can be: a PowerPoint, a prezi, a poster board, etc (anything aside from what is listed must be approved by a teacher)

Conclusion

While some explorers are more well known than others, each exploration served a purpose (whether accomplished or not) and had some lasting effect. The purpose of this project was to learn more about the lesser known explorers and how their explorations made an impact.
