Introduction
This web quest is to Explore Physical Science with lots of fun and creativity. The 10-12 grade Physical Science students can complete the web quest for better understanding of the standards. This web quest has different activities and assignments which should be completed and submitted for grading. You can use one weeks time to complete all the assignments and submit everything together for grading. There is a rubric for your evaluation which is explained on the evaluation tab. Go through each tabs shown on the left side of this page and complete all assignments according to the instructions given.
Task
Today you will investigate more about the exciting world of chemical reactions!
There are 8 Types of Chemical Reactions we will study in this unit, they are:
- Synthesis Reactions
- Decomposition Reactions
- Single Replacement Reactions
- Double Replacement Reactions
- Oxidation-Reduction Reactions
- Neutralization Reactions
- Exothermic Reactions
- Endothermic Reactions
You will become an expert on one of the assigned types of chemical reactions and then share your knowledge with the other members of the class.
Your Assignment
YOU are the teachers! Use the information from the links provided and information you find on your own to create a lesson on the reaction type that you have been assigned. You will be investigating a type of chemical reaction in order to gather information for your Group Research Project and Presentation.
Before you start your presentation, you'll need to collect some basic background information. Read and watch the sources that are labeled "REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE" and answer the questions in the associated worksheet.
Now your ready to become an expert in your assigned reaction type.
In your presentation you should include:
- Type of reaction (assigned by your teacher)
- Definition of your reaction
- At least two real-life examples including equations and photos
- 5 photos or diagrams that help explain your reaction
- An easy way to remember your reaction type - recite a poem, write a song, create a rhyme
- Each member of the group must take a turn speaking
- Cite all sources used on the last slide (even if the teacher provided them). This includes citing your photos/diagrams!
***NOTE: Presentations should be short and sweet. Five minutes should be enough time.
There are several websites that you'll be guided to investigate and look through to get information for your project.
Your Presentation Rubric is viewable under the Evaluation tab.
In addition to your presentation, you should also have 5 questions on your reaction for your audience to answer. An answer key MUST be provided to your teacher before your presentation.
Process
You will be investigating the 1 of the 8 different types of chemical reactions using the following resources and websites in order to create a stunning powerpoint, Prezi, or other type of presentation. Your resources can be found on varying portions of each of the listed websites. Utilize your critical thinking skills to discover the answers to your questions.
You have been broken into groups that correspond with your assignments for your Group Project.
- First, use the links provided below as well as the YouTube videos linked on this page to prepare your presentations.
- Make sure you are taking notes for your Group Project as this is your opportunity to research your Reaction Type for this project as well.
- On the due date, you will be expected to turn in both a paper copy of your presentation and an electronic version.
