Esperanza Rising

Introduction

Our class is currently reading Esperanza Rising. This WebQuest will help us learn more about Mexican Culture, Mexican Immigration, and the Mexican Revolution.  I hope you enjoy this QUEST!!! :)   Esperanza Rising tells the story of a young girl living in Mexico in the 1930's who thens moves to California due to certain circumstances. 

  

 

Task

 

I want each of you to learn more about Esperanza's country, Mexico and the reasons she was forced out of Mexico to the United States to find work. Topics we are going to look at are:

1. Mexican Culture and Traditions

2. Mexican Revolution

3. Immigration and migrant camps

After reading the text and researching through this WebQuest you will create a project either poster, essay or a PowerPoint.  You can work with a partner but both of you must turn in a project.

  1. During what time period did the Mexican Revolution take place?
  2. Who were the important people and what roles did they plan in this revolution?
  3. Explain why the Revolution started.  Make sure you look for cause/effect relationships between both people and events.
  4. Where did the battles occur, and what were their outcomes?  Notice the attitude and different opinions of the two sides of the battle. 
  5. Describe the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution.

Research Guide:

Migrant Workers/Labor Camps

 

  1. Describe the history of Migrant Camps.
  2. Describe the hardships faced by the people who lived and worked in the migrant camps. 
  3. Describe a typical day in the life of a migrant camp.
  4. What role did Labor Unions/UFW play in migrant workers and labor camps?  What was the relationship between labor unions and immigrant migrant workers?

Evaluation

The evaluation on this Project will be based on group work, group participation, presentation, and project.  This is out of a possible 100 points.
