The Era of Activism

Introduction

The Civil Rights movement made waves for both African Americans and other minorities that were facing inequality or oppression in the 1960s. The overwhelming success of the Civil Rights movement paved the way for other movements to rise up and demand equality. These movements include the women's rights movement, the Latino movement, the Japanese American Citizens League, the American Indian movement, the beginning of the gay and lesbian rights movement and the enviornmental and consumer movements.

Conclusion

The Civil Rights Movement acted as the first domino in a series of social movements. Grassroots protest became a way of life in the late 60s and into the 70s. Protest was the thing that caused great change in America. Practices and tactics of the Era of Activism are often still used today when a body of people demand change.
