Endangered Species

Introduction

In the current Chilean education, one of the most common problems in the english classes is that students cannot communicate properly in english.

Having given the facts, have you ever seen on the news that there are animals who are about to disappear? Let's give the example of a “vaquita marina” or the orangutan, dolphin, among others. Therefore, would not you like to discover how many of them are trying to survive nowadays? and what is more, to give some solutions and to finally have a say on the matter?

Well, with this quest that you are going to do, it is likely that you will be able to acquire the knowledge to comprehend the current issue.

Task

You will have learned about the current condition of certain endangered species. Furthermore, you will learn about the percentages provided by statistics on the disappearance of these animals. Finally, you will learn what is really on stake when talking and researching about endangered animals.

The gathered information has to be presented in a powerpoint presentation, which must include a cover, an introduction about the topic, images, videos, real data research and a final conclusion about what the whole group think about these animals, among others.

Process

1.   In groups of three, look for three endangered animals and create a powerpoint presentation. What you have to search specifically is basic information (scientific name, characteristics, habitat and location), cause(s) of         endangerment, statisitcs of current state of the specie and finally name and describe any organization, which is helping to end this problem.2.  There are some links with some species and its characteristics, such as:

 http://news.discovery.com/animals/endangered-species

 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/wildlife/6927330/Top-10-most-endangered-species-in-the-world.html

Other websites will give you amazing images, which you can collect for your  power point presentation:

 https://www.worldwildlife.org/species

 http://www.animalplanet.com/wild-animals/endangered-species/

3.    The presentation needs to have a cover page, an introduction, development and a conclusion, which in this case is compulsory, as long as images of the species chosen.

4.    Each group will have no more than 10 minutes to present the presentation with its respective information, along with some videos (optional).

5.    The conclusion has to be delivered as a separate document by one member of the group, with all the questions answered (compulsory).

Evaluation

This rubric will be used to evaluate your speaking performance, PowerPoint Presentation and your conclusions of the webquest.
