Dream City Diorama

Introduction

A diorama is a miniature model of a place, an object or an event. It is created by assembling three-dimensional objects together against a platform or a painted background. Dioramas are used to display a large area in a small scale or to represent a scene or a historical event. The purpose of a diorama is so that people can visually understand a big picture instead of having to imagine it inside their head which may cause misunderstanding and errors.

Task

The topic of the unit you have been discussing is about Places. You have learned why people travel, what kind of places people live in, and how locations affect people’s lives. Therefore your project for this unit is to make a DIORAMA.

Create a diorama (miniature) of your own city.

You can create a modern city or even a laid back island. Design your city so that it is comfortable enough for people to live in and interesting enough so that tourists will come.

Process

Follow these steps to complete the project:

1. Decide what kind of city you want to make

2. Design the layout. Remember : the size of your diorama must be a minimum of 45X30 cm.

3. Start building your diorama

4. Present your diorama to the class

Materials you need:

  1. Cardboard box
  2. Scissors
  3. Glue (PVC/glue gun)
  4. Small unused boxes (cereal / wafer / cookie boxes,  yogurt containers, etc)
  5. Colored paper (optional)
  6. Poster paint / Acrylic paint and brushes
