DON'T STOP THE MUSIC!!

Introduction

Learning a language is also learning the culture in which the language is spoken…and music is an essential part of a country’s culture! With this activity, students will discover a little more about the music that was popular in the United Kingdom in the 20th century.

The United Kingdom had a strong influence on global pop-rock music in thAT century; many of the groups that emerged in that period are already famous and influential!

Task

This task is about immersing ourselves in the musical British culture of the 20th century.

Students have to choose a British music band famous in that period and prepare an oral presentation in which they explain the most important information about that band. This way, students will discover some of the most important bands of British history and they will get more familiar with British culture.

Process

Class will be divided in groups of three people. Each group has to choose a 20th century music band from the United Kingdom.

Students will be provided a series of websites in which they can find all the necessary information; they can also use other Internet resources.

After choosing a music band, each group has to prepare an oral presentation about that group. On it, they have to talk about the most important details of the band and select the most important song to be heard during class time.

Each oral presentation should last about 10 minutes.
