Disaster Preparedness 101

Introduction

Are you ready for the next disaster? 

This Webquest will help you to work as a team to inform others how to prepare for a disaster and the importance of being prepared. 

Task

This task will allow you to know what a disaster is, how to prepare for a disaster, and the importance of being prepared for a disaster.

At the end of the task you and your team will develop a Public Service Announcemnt (PSA) to imform others about how to implement what you have learned. 

Process

Disasters can be devestating at any time. Being properly prepared for a disaster - natural or man made - can help deal with the circumstances better. You will be able to use the information you gather to help others be prepared for any disaster. After gathering all of your research, as a team you will create a PSA for the general public. The roles of the team are as follows: Overall person in charge, Emergency Services coordinator, Supplies, and Communication. Use all of the information provided to find out if you are prepared for a disaster, how to be properly prepared for a disaster, and education for the public on disaster preparedness. 

Use the following websites to gather and compile your infomation. Think about these questions and formulate your own as you watch the videos:

1. Would you be prepared? 

2. How would you feel if you were living out this disaster? 

3. What are things you might need, people you want to talk to? 

4. What things do you need to be prepared? 

5. Write down any important and unfamiliar terms. Explain why you think these are important terms and define any that you do not know.

  My hope is this webquest has you thinking about being prepared for a disaster, natural or man made. I also hope that you will use this information to educate others about disaster preparedness. My last hope is that you will takeaction and get prepared!
