Introduction

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story.  It is a type of journalism that is wonderful to experience if done well but not so easy to create.  It requires a creative mind who can use both words and pictures to tell an important story. 

Task

Renowned as “the contests designed for photojournalists by photojournalists,” and incorporating the many facets of the visual journalism industry, National Press Photographers Association's  Best of Photojournalism competitions attract the most talented professionals in still, video, multimedia, and editing, year after year. The National Press Photographers Association is delighted to announce that the 2016 Best of Photojournalism competitions will open soon.  You are an aspiring photojournalist and see this as the perfect opportunity to show off your skills and talents.   

You have decided that it would be an interesting feature to examine the growth and impact of technology and the consumerism that has accompanied the digital age in Europe.  Your reputation preceeded you and they approved your compilation piece which will cover the development of technology over the century, how the digital age has changed life and spurred on the age of consumerism.  You are confident that your piece will not only live up to their standards but also bring home an award. 

Since this is a web-based newspaper, your article will not only cite your sources but will do so in hyperlinks.  You are expected to use at least 6 sources and have at least 10 graphics to accompany your story. 

Process

This assignment requires you to be a photojournalist. 

1.  Do some basic research on the basic development of technology during the 21st century and the move toward consumerism. 

2.  Brainstorm on the developments you want to focus on and the impacts they've had on the European populace.

3.  Skim articles for information that might provide evidence to your brainstorming impacts.

4.  Select articles you find useful and carefully read them for specific evidence that you will cite in the writing of your paper.

5.  Prepare your newspaper article covering the development of technology over the century, how the digital age has changed life and spurred on the age of consumerism.

6.  Be familiar with the rubric to insure that you have all of the elements required and to live up to the reputation of the Monitor.

7.  Your news article will be mostly told through pictures, however you will be required to give commentary to explain how this gowth in technology led to the digital age and consumerism.
