Coral Reefs and Ocean Plants

Introduction

In the world's oceans there live many coral reefs, ocean plants, and animals.  You will learn about them within this lesson.

  

Task

Your task is to create a mural, as well as a corresponding notecard, about coral reefs, ocean plants, or animals that live within the ocean.

                                                              

                        

Process

You will participate with the class in drawing at least one componenet onto the class mural of an ocean.  You will pick one ocean plant, one part of a coral reef, or an ocean animal to contribute.  You will research your plant or animal, and write on a notecard a brief statement about it and how it is important in the ocean.Included on the notecard should be:

  • the name of the plant or animal
  • where in the ocean the plant or animal can be found (near the shore, deep in the water, etc.)
  • what purpose the plant or animal serves in the ocean (as food, to provide oxygen, etc.)
  • one interesting fact you learned about the plant or animal

Evaluation

5 -- All information is correct.  Presentation has no spelling or grammarical errors.  All required information is included.  Student contributed to the class mural.

4 -- All information is correct.  Presentation has some some (1-2) spelling or grammarical errors.  All required information is included.  Student contributed to the class mural.

3 -- Most information is correct.  Presentation has some spelling or grammarical errors (3-4).  Most required information is included.  Student contributed to the class mural.

2 -- Most information is correct.  Presentation has lots of spelling or grammarical errors (5-6).  Not all required information is included (missing one or two parts).  Student contributed to the class mural.

1 -- Some information is correct.  Presentation has more than 7 spelling or grammarical errors.  Not all required information is included (missing three or more parts).  Student contributed to the class mural.

0 -- Student did not complete an informational notecard, and they did not contribute to the class mural.

Conclusion

At the completion of this project, you should be able to tell me the name and at least one fact you learned about your ocean plant or animal.
