Cold War

Introduction

The Cold war started in 1947 and lasted to 1991. The war was base on fear of other countries. The United States thought the Soviet Union was a threat to them because they were spreading communism and the Soviet Union thought the United States was a threat to them because they were spreading democracy. This created a huge rivalry between them that led to the Space and Arms Race. Other wars like the Koreon and Vietnam War occurred at the same time as the Cold War and have similarities relating to the Cold War. The Cold War ended in 1991 because communism began to become less popular and the US and the USSR were no longer threats to each other.

Essential questions:

  • Why was communism such a threat to America?
  • How did the Space Race influence American education for students?
  • How did the rivalry between US and USSR affect the Vietnam War?
