The Cold War

Introduction

The Cold War began in 1945 and didn't end till 1991. The Cold War was tension between the democracies of the Western World and the communist countries of Eurpean Europe. The Western World was lead by the United States and Eastern Europe was lead by the Soviet Union. This webquest will give a detailed insight on the Cold War. Topics that will be covered in this webquest would be the causes, the effects, the Space race, the Arms race, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the end of the war. Our essential questions is:

How might the President  and the American people react after knowing they lost the space race?

How was the United States' and Soviet Union's people affected by the Arms Race?

How might the Korean and Vietnam war be different and similar?

This newspaper out of millions others across the world had the moon landing as the headlines. This was a revolutionary event that made the Soviet Union felt intimidated.

Task

Task: Write a paper through the perspective of an American man/woman.

Directions: You will need to do the following in order to complete the WebQuest. 

1. Research 9 articles that are given in the credits

2. Create a table with notes and anaylsis

3. Compare and contrast the differences and similarities of the Korean and Vietnam War

3. Write a paragraph based on your perspective

4. Write the paper containing three paragraphs at minimum

5. Answer the three essential questions

Process

1. Reasearch the following topics in order to go further with the process.

-Causes of the War

- Effects of the War 

- Space Race

- Arms Race

- Korean War

- Vietnam War

- End of War

This was ask will take approximately sixty minutes to complete.

2. Create a table based on the Soviet's and United States' reaction  the Space and Arms Race. This will take approximately thirty minutes to complete.

3. Create a compare and contrast chart that analyzes the similarities and differences of the Vietnam and Korean War. This task will take 15 minutes to complete. 

4. Write a paragraph based off of your perspective as an American man/woman and react to the information researched.

5. Write a three paragraph response toward the given essential questions.

How might the President  and the american people react after knowing they lost the space race? 

How was the United States' and Soviet Union's people affected by the Arms Race? 

How might the Korean and Vietnam war be different and similar?

1: Off task the majority of the time, talking was excessive talking and handling of mobile device.

Presentation:

3: Detailed and very informative as well as neat and understandable.

2: Detailed, somewhat informative and somewhat understandable/clear.

1: There was no understanding and the presentation wasn't clear, very bland.

Content:

3: Includes table, comparison, and the four paragraphs completed. Content is detailed and clear, and includes all of the topics.

2: The majority of the task completed includes the majority of the topics and is somewhat detailed and  informative.

1: Lack of understanding, topics are not mentioned, lack of content and task is not fully completed.

Analysis:

3: The task is completed and the topics were throughly mentioned. The Webquest is detailed and there was a detailed understandable analysis on each topics and essential question.

2: The task is completed and the topics are somewhat mentioned, the Webquest is completed but not throughly analyzed. The majority of the topics and essential questions are analyzed.

1:The task is not fully completed. The topics and essential questions were barely or never analyzed. The responses were very bland and less than three sentences for a paragraph.

This website will give insight on the President's opinion on the Space Race. The website gives a descriptive insight on Sputnik and the after results of it involving the US.

The Cold War along with the Space Race is given an overview of it. The American people were not pleased with Sputnik's success and the President claimed to have a man landed on the moon before the end of the decade ends.

The website not only gives insight on the the United States reaction to Sputnik 1 and the first man on the moon but also the Soviet Union's reaction toward the landing on the moon. This gives a broad perspective on both sides of the event, the moon landing was a popular headline everywhere and caused the event to escalt even more.

The Arms Race played a great part in the Cold War, it is what mainly characterized it. The Arms Race is what caused a rapid, competitive race towards quantity and quality of instruments for the military.

The United States possed the most decisisve weapons at the time of the Cold War. The Soviet Union had wanted to overpower and did felt intimidated adn felt as though they needed to out weaponize their competitor. SALT played a great part in the Cold War and the United States and the Soviet Union weren't the only ones effected by it.

The beginning of the hostility between the United States and the USSR started by the end of World War 2. The most serious Cold War confrontation between the United States and the USSR took place in October, 1962; the Cuban Missile Crisis.

How might the Korean and Vietnam war be different and similar?

The Korean and Vietnam war were divided after the end of World War 2. There were millions of people killed in both countries but there are different ending results.

There were more differences than similarites between the Vietnam and Korean War through the military aspects. The Vietnam and Korean War had different significants in the Cold War as well.

The Korean War began when North Korea invaded South Korea, the war didn't end till July 27, 1953. The Fall of Sagion had marked the end of the Vietnam War  and the beginning of the  reunification of the communist state of Vietnam.
