Introduction

In this WebQuest, we will explore how the issues discussed in "The Chrysalids" are issues that exist in the real world, and are in fact happening all around us. Dispite being set in the futhre, and written in the 1950's, the themes explored in "The Chrysalids" remain relevant and present today.

Task

Humans fear change and they fear what they do not know or understand. Since the dawn of time, one of the most powerful emotions humans experience is that of fear. More than once fear has been used to shape society, deem members fit or unfit, and often times has led to the unfair treatment of groups seen as "different'.

In this WebQuest, we will explore how the issues discussed in "The Chrysalids" are issues that exist in the real world, and are in fact happening all around us. Dispite being set in the futhre, and written in the 1950's, the themes explored in "The Chrysalids" remain relevant and present today.

Process

"The Chrysalids" contains many themes, all of which explore the ways that humans use fear to shape socieities. Below you will find a list of some of these themes. You will be assigned one theme to explore deerper, and discover how this theme from the novel also applies to the world we live in.

Step 1:Once you have been assigned a theme, you will click on the coorsponding link below. After clicking the link, you will find yourself on a new website which contains a "Case Study" of that theme as it appears (or has appeared) in the real world.
