Education, and how educators teach, is evolving. The rise of technology has prompted a rethinking of how students in classrooms learn. This endeavor has resulted in the development of new literacies and ideas regarding integrating technology into the educational practice. In this webquest, you will explore new literacies within the framework of information and communication technology, and determine whether or not you believe the integration of new literacies and technology is beneficial for students today and students of the future.

Task

Your task is to examine the following articles and determine whether or not you believe the integration of new literacies and technology is beneficial for students today and students of the future.

To complete this webquest, complete the following requirements:

             1. A journal documenting and detailing your thoughts and opinions to each article and resource you read through. 

             2. An essay comparing and contrasting the current educational model with the future of education and the integration of new literacies and technology.

             3. You will introduce and discuss your essay in small groups. Students will use the rubric provided to peer-edit their essays.   

             4. You will present your essay, your opinions and findings in an oral presentation.

In order to fulfill the tasks of this webquest, you will investigate and develop your knowledge and opinion regarding new literacies in the following articles and videos.

First, read/watch the following articles/videos:

6. How Generational Theory Can Improve Teaching: Strategies for Working with the “Millennials”

A) In your journals, write a response of at least 250 words to each of the articles/videos listed above. 

B) Once you have read through and responded to each of these resources, you will write an essay (500 words minimum) comparing and contrasting the current educational model with the future of education and the integration of new literacies and technology into classrooms.

C) You will discuss your essay and your findings with a small group (3-4) and refine your ideas. Use the rubric provided to critique your work and that of your peers. 

D) Lastly, you will present your essay to the class in a 5-10 minute presentation.
