Introduction
Hello Students, you will be reading the awesome book "Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss. While reading this funny story, you will focus on key ideas and details.

Grade: 2
Standard: RL 2.1-3
Ask and demonstrate questions as who, what, when, where, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key ideas in a text.
Task
Students will watch the video of the read aloud of the book Cat in the Hat written by Dr. Seuss and read by singer Justin Bieber.
Students will take note of key details and questions about the story such as who, what, when, where, why and how.

Process
- Watch video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTrs2-U5NeM (this video contains the actual read aloud of the Cat in the Hat it also includes the images. The video is 8 minutes long.)
- Answer questions about the key ideas and details of the story.
- In partner pairs, complete the Cat in the Hat book report (the template will be handed out by the teacher.).
- Each student will be responsible for contibuting to each key idea and detail.
- Turn in the book report when done, with both students names on the report.
Evaluation
Rubric for Grading Book Report
1. Minimal: Students have demonstrated small knowledge of the details in the story. One or two of the key questions are answered.
2. Below Average: Students have demonstrated some knowledge of the details in the story. Half(3) of the key questions are answered, but not all.
3. Average: Students have demonstrated many of the key details in the story. Most (4-5) of the key questions have been answered. Students mostly understand what the key ideas and details of the story are.
4. Above Average: Students have demonstrated all of teh key ideas in the story. All 6 of the key questions have been answered thoroughly. The students completely understand the key ideas and details.
Conclusion
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to identify the key ideas in a story as well as the six key questions in a story (who, what, when, where, why and how?)
