Building a House

Introduction

Today you will get the opportunity to build a house! There are many different shapes involved when making a house and we need your help to pick them out to make sure other people can safely live in the house. 

Task

After this project, you will be able to recognize different shapes, as you will use them to build a house. 

 

1. Pick a house that you would like to build:

 

2. Pick what shapes are in the house.

3. Determine where each shape goes on the house. 

Process

Once you have choosen a house, we must do a little research to find out about the different shapes that could possibly be in a house.

First you will need to learn about the different shapes:

Draw each shape, click on the name of the shape for help

1. What does a Square look like?

2. What does a Rectangle look like?

3. What does a Triange look like?

4. What does a Circle look like?

5. What does a Rhombus look like?

6. What does an Octagon look like?

7. What does a Hexagon look like?

8. What are the names of shapes that are needed to build our house?

9. How many of each shape will you need?

10. What does your house look like? Use arrows on your drawing to name each shape, be sure to use color

5------- All shapes are drawn correctly. The house is correctly labeled. The shapes are in the correct positions, to make it look like a house. The house is colored

1------- Most of the shapes are drawn correctly.

0------- None of the shapes are drawn correctly.

Conclusion

At the end of this project, students should be able to recognize the different shapes. After recognizing these different shapes, students will be able to combine them, to create a house.
