Blueprint Builder- Helping Job Seekers Make Informed Decisions

Introduction

Blueprint Builder is your online career planning tool that contains essential career, education and job search resources to help you plan your career path. Discover career options, find the right education and funding, and target jobs in your selected field.

Key to this learning activity is to get you think about a career path, not as a straight line but as series of interrelated actions that form one’s lifelong career pathway. You can keep track of resources in your personalized Blueprint and make notes to refer to later that will help you continue to locate and use good career information as you move towards your goal of employment.

At the end of this WebQuest you will:

  • Register and personalize your account
  • Explore Blueprint Resources
  • Add resources to Build your Blueprint
  • Follow your Blueprint career plan and find your career fit

Task

In this learning activity, you will explore career planning activities and learn how to create your own personalized Blueprint to support your career journey. .

You will: 1. Build a collection of career resources in a personalized Blueprint to support your career journey. 2. Assess various career options and identify careers best suited to you. 3. Make a plan to explore a job you want to learn more about.

Process

Task 1 - How to Register to Build your Personalized Blueprint

Task 2 - Register for your personal Blueprint Account

Step One: Create an Account

1. Click on https://www.workbc.ca/BlueprintBuilder/?page=1

2.Follow the steps to create your account

• You’ll receive an activation email—just click on that link to activate your account.  Then, log in using your email address and password.

Step Three:  

Take a quick tour of what is available  Select “Build your Blueprint”. View the variety of resources available in each group. 

Step Four: Build your own Blueprint

Browse through each of the resource categories. You can easily move between “Career Exploration”, “Education & Funding” or “Job Search” at any time.

Add “Career Compass and Career Trek to your Blueprint

Add the following resource in your Blueprint so you can investigate career options later:

Task 3

Select Career Compass Resources and complete 2 quizzes

1. Click on https://www.workbc.ca/CareerCompass/Career-Quiz.aspx

2. Click Abiltiies Quiz and complete.  Spend 5-10 minutes sometime exploring the careers that are recommended based on your answers.  Save this to your blueprint

3. Click Work Preference Quiz and complete.  Spend 5-10 minutes sometime exploring the careers that are recommended based on your answers.  Save this to your blueprint

Task 4

Select Career Trek Resource - provide link

1. Click on ‘Skills’ (right of page).  This will generates a list of occupations, corresponding information, and videos to the left of the page.

2 From the Career Trek homepage, select a key skill that you possess.

3.From the list of occupations this selection generates, record the first three occupations on a sheet of paper.

4. Watch the Career Trek videos associated with all three occupations.
