You are about to graduate from high school and move on to college. You are getting your own house and you are going to have to prepare your own meals each day. Before you can prepare you own meals, you need to understand what your body needs for fuel. What does your body need? How much of each food group is appropriate? What foods meet the guidelines?

 

 

You know that there are five food groups…But what are they?

 

You need to come up with a weekly menu for yourself that meets the daily requirements of each food group.

You will get into groups of 3 students and you will complete you weekly meal plan together.

 

1.  Figure out the Food Groups

     a.  Research the 5 food groups

     b.  How much of each food group should you consume each day?

 

2.  Show us what you’ve learned

     a.  Write out the food groups and how much of each food you should              consume.

     b.  Present these findings on the top of your menu.

 

3.  Provide information on food that should not be consumed.

    a.  Why are those foods bad for you?

    b.  What are replacements for those foods?

Step 1:  Get in groups of 3 students.

 

Step 2:  Use the websites listed in the "Website" section and read about each of the food groups and the food pyramid requirements

 

Step 3:  After reading the information on the website as well as the information provided on the Information page.

 

Step 4:  Use all the information to create the first day’s meal plan.

 

Step 5:  Have your Day 1 meal approved by the teacher.

 

Step 6:  Complete the rest of your week meals (if you need assistance check in with the teacher)

 

Step 7:  Create a document to display your menu.

            

              Include these points:

              a.  Time of day

              b.  Main Dish

              c.  Side Dish

              d.  Drink

              e.  Percent of daily requirement obtained

Your team will be evaluated on a scale of 1-3 for your overall menu

Your team will be evaluated based on a possible 77 points

Congratulations!  Your team successfully completed your menu for a week’s timeframe.  With your efforts were able to identify the necessary food groups, the percentage of each food group necessary every day and establish a balanced meal for three meals a day.
