Introduction

The Listening section measures test takers’ ability to understand spoken English from North America and other English-speaking countries. In academic environments students need to listen to lectures and conversations. Below are three possible purposes for academic listening.

Listening purposes include

  2. Listening for pragmatic understanding
  3. Connecting and synthesizing information

To demonstrate your ability to understand spoken English, examinees must first listen to passages on headphones and then answer various types of questions about the passages that you just heard. According to the listening section, skill 3 helps you avoid similar sounds by completing a set of activities designed to fulfill this aspect of English. 

 

Task

In this exercise, listen carefully to each short dialogue and question on the recording, and then choose the best answer to the question you should be careful to avoid answers with similar sounds. 

Write the answers in word document and compare them with the correct answers in the credit section.

Each statement has a value of: 1  point.

If you get 8 points or less, the author suggests to perform the activity as many times as needed to get all answers correct.

Conclusion

Even though you get all answers correct, it is important you continue practicing the rest of the skills included in the TOEFL test.
