Audition Preparation WebQuest

Introduction

The junior high band teacher needs your help! Mr. Hyde gave a survey to his 7th-9th grade students, and he found that many of his students don't know how to prepare correctly for a performance audition. This is a big problem because Mr. Hyde wants his students to be successful and do well when they audition for solos and ensembles. Auditions are coming up for placement in next year's junior high ensembles as well as the high school ensembles, so the students need to start preparing now.

Mr. Hyde wants you to think about your personal experiences that you have had while preparing for any type of auditon. When you struggled in an audition what do you think caused it? When you were successful what process did you come up with for yourself? If someone gave you a guidlines sheet for preparing for an audition do you think it will help you to be more successful?

Select TASK in order to see how Mr. Hyde wants you to help his students.

Task

Your task will be to learn about different techniques and strategies someone could use in order to prepare properly for an audition. You will then need to create an infographic on how to be successful in preparing for an audition.

1. Learn about many strategies and techniques that could help you or someone else prepare for an audition more efficiently.

2. Create a fun and creative infographic to help students understand the strategies and techniques you learned about.

Click on PROCESS to find out how exactly you will accomplish this assignment.

Process

1.) You should begin by doing some research on your own or looking up the following resources in order to learn more about the strategies and techniques in preparing for an audition:

(Even though some of these videos are focused towards string players or orchestra auditions every principal can still apply to you).

2.) Next you will compile what you have learned and create a fun and creative infographic. You can use PiktoChart (Links to an external site.), Easely (Links to an external site.), Canva (Links to an external site.), Vennage (Links to an external site.), or another tool to create your infographic. Your infographic will be shown to the students at the junior high and will be shared among your peers. We may also send it out to parents to help them understand what their child should be doing in order to be successful.

In order to see what you will be graded on click the EVALUATION tab.

Evaluation

This assignment will be graded on a complete or incomplete basis. Here are a few minimum requirements that I want to see in the infographic:

  • 5 tips or techniques for preparation
  • Creativity (I need to see that you tried to make it interesting)
  • Colorful
  • Information needs to be accurate

As long as you meet this criteria you will get full points for the assignment.

Conclusion

Image result for conclusion

This assignment should not only have helped the students at the junior high, but hopefully you learned something new that you can apply in your preparations for your auditions for next year. If you desire to do well, than it is not enough to "wing-it" or to be careless. "Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice reduces the imperfections" (Toba Beta).  These are real skills that need to be developed. Even if you are not planning on going into music as a career path many of the skills can be used for job interviews, presentations, and other aspects as well.

I want you to think about other ways that the skills and techniques you portrayed in your infographic can be used in your other classes or other parts of life that are not music related. There will be a discussion on canvas where each of you will be required to post your thoughts. Think about this question for a couple days and post what you come up with. We can all benefit from each other's thougths. :D

Post your thoughts!!

  1. VI.                Meeting Student Needs

Accommodations

I will make sure to talk to the students that do not have internet access. If they do not have internet access and are unable to go anywhere with that access than I will print off the resources for them and have them draw the infographic. Any students that need other special accommodations may come and talk to me, and I will find a way to resolve the issue.

Differentiation:

Students that may not be motivated to learn something by themselves will have an opportunity to go over or learn new materials about audition preparation through this WebQuest. Some of the older students will think they know all of this already so to give them the assignment to come up with an infographic to help students at the junior high will not only benefit the junior high students but it will also help the students completing the assignment. It also gives the students an opportunity to feel good knowing that they helped to teach younger students that are following the same path.
