Assignment: Dinosaur Exploration

Introduction

During the month of May children have been learning about dinosaurs. We will be learning about Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus. Children will read informational and fictional text, create 3-D models, and also expressive art related to the subject of dinosaurs. 

Parents will be asked to take children on a trip to the Museum of Natural History to further engage and develop children’s understanding on the topic of dinosaurs. 

 

Task

Guiding Questions:

  1. What are dinosaurs?
  2. How do we learn about dinosaurs?
  3. What happened to the dinosaurs?
  4. Are all dinosaurs the same? What are some similarities and differences in dinosaurs?

Create one expressive art 3-D model of a dinosaur in its natural habitat, describe what the dinosaur ate, and how he moved.

Children will be evaluated based on observations, and teacher child interviews. 

Conclusion

Dinosaurs are popular for most children. Something about these extinct creatures from long ago seems to captivate children’s attention. While we don’t know everything about dinosaurs, what we do know and want to know seems to captivate children of all ages.

Dinosaurs can be used as learning tools to develop scientific inquiry skills as well as literacy. Children can explore reach text, both fictional and informational, as well as learning about how to be young scientist learning about fossils and dinosaur facts.
