Introduction
Imagine yourself all of a suden being hunted. You are being hunted for no other reason but because of who you are. You hide with your family and others in a small, tight livingf space with very little food or enteretainment. No video games, no smart phones, just a journal and pencils. How would you react? What wouud you do?
This is precisly what happened to Anne Frank, and through all this she wrote a journal detailing her experiences.
We will read "Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl"
Through this reading and further research we will discover what lead to the circumstances of Anne's ordeal, what others like her may have suffered, and how we can relate to the accounts.

Task 1 - An Overview (Group Task)
You will first spend some time gathering research about the events that led to World War II and Hitler's hatred of the Jewish people. You’ll look at the people, countries, and historical events that laid the background for Anne Frank’s story.
Task 2 - A Closer Look at Anne Frank
Now it's time to look a little closer at the life of Anne Frank. Visit the Anne Frank House located at http://www.annefrank.org/en/Anne-Frank/timeline at the to learn more about how she grew up.
Task 3 - Through Their Eyes
Concentration Camp Experiences
For this task, you'll be looking closer at the experiences of victims in the concentration camp.
Eye-Witness Journal
Using all the knowledge you have gained , your assignment is to write a journal entry from the point of view of a child your age held captive in a concentration camp.
Task 4- Reflecting Through Art
As a final task, you will create a work of art that reflects your understanding and what you have learned and feel about Anne Frank or the Holocaust.
Process
Task 1 (Group Task)
In groups of 2, 3, or 6. Each member of the group must have an assigned task to be decided by the group. All students must have a copy of the findings for the following tasks.
Record your findings to the following:
First, do a quick web search to find out which countries were part of the Allies and Axis Powers during World War 2. Record the answers and write the web address where you found the information.
Secondly, find out the dates WWII began and ended. Record the answers and write the web address where you found the information.
Third, define the terms "genocide" and "anti-Semitism." Record the answers and write the web address where you found the information.
Fourth, read about the events that led up to the beginning of WW2 at http://www.historyonthenet.com/WW2/causes.htm . Summarize these events in bulleted form.
Fifth, read the article " Why Did Hitler Hate the Jews?" located at http://www.whyguides.com/why-did-hitler-hate-the-jews.html . Summarize (not just list) the reasons in bulleted form.
Sixth, read through the sections titled, " Persecution Begins", "Ghettos", and "Concentration and Extermination Camps" located at http://history1900s.about.com/od/holocaust/a/holocaustfacts.htm
Write a personal response to what you read that includes your thoughts and feelings about what you read.
Task 2
First, Read each section and take careful note of the pictures that accompany the text.
1.) Read all the sections.
2.) Write down at least five interesting facts from EACH section.
(8 sections.... 5 facts from each= 40 facts!)
3.) Make sure to label each section.
Second, For an extra overview, the Anne Frank House provides some more information about the events leading up to and following World War II. This "Who's Who" also breaks down each of the major individuals in Anne's life.
Choose one person you feel is most interesting and tell why you feel this way.

After taking the tour, write at least 1/2 page personal narrative describing your feeling about living in this manner for an extended period of time. What would your feelings be? How would you cope? What would you do to pass the time? Describe your feelings about living in this small of a place, with other people and be constantly in fear.

Task 3
First, visit the website titled Tales from Auschwitz: Survivor Stories. Read through each of the six survivors' stories. Choose two to summarize and then write a personal response of your thoughts and feelings about his/her story.
Then, visit Holocaust Survivors. Read the six concentration camp survivors' stories by clicking their faces and then "Read Survivor's Story."
Once you've read their stories, you are ready to begin your final writing activity.
Journal - This should be in first person "I". It should include the date you have chosen as the setting of your journal entry.
Think and write about what the writer might have experienced and any emotions or fears he/she might have felt. This journal entry should be well-thought out and it should reflect a level of maturity.
This should be at least one page long and include who the writer is, his/her age, his/her life before the war, how he/she was captured, where he/she was taken, the sights and sounds of the camp, what jobs he/she does, the living conditions, etc. but most of all, it should include the thoughts and feelings of the character and how he/she copes with being in a concentration camp.
Task 4
You may use markers, crayons, scissors, construction paper, modeling clay, paint, etc. to create this piece of art. Place an explanation on your artwork explaining how it is related to your studies.
Evaluation
You will be graded by the proper completion of each task and whether instructions were properly followed.

By this time you will have learned what lead to WW2, why Hitler persecuted Jews, and how Anne Frank saw her world. You will have also completed a well written account of what you may have experienced.
