Animal Habitats

Introduction

Students will learn about various animal habitats and what animal characteristics relate to different habitats. 

Task

1. Students will explore different animla habitats using the internet as their primary source. Books and magazines may also be used in conjunction with internet searches.

2. A venn diagram will be completed with each group of 5 comparing 2 animal habitats.

3. Students will choose the animal they wish to research.

4. Students will build a shoebox habitat represnting the habitat of their chosen animal.

Process

1. Use GoGooglians and KidRex to help you obtain as much information about animals habitats as possible. Other webistes, such as http://www.skyenimals.com/browse_habitat.cgi may be utilized in your search.

2. Using your observation notebook, record as much infomration about each habitat as possible. Use this information to compare two chosen habitats using a venn diagram with your group.

3. Identify ONE animal you wish to conduct additional research on. This research must be related to the animals and its habitat.

4. Create a shoebox habitat incorporating important aspects of your chosen animals habitat into the presentation.

The students will have worked in groups and individually to active their background knowledge regarding animals and their habitats as well as gleam new information about each habitat and how animals utilize specific habitats to survive.
