Animal Classification

Introduction

Do you know what an animal is? Of course you do!

Do you know how to identify which group an animal is classified into? This may be a little bit more difficult.

Animals can be divided into specific categories depending on their characteristics and features. In this Web Quest, we are going to learn how to identify animals by becoming animal experts! You will have the chance to research different animals and their traits, and you will make your own Animal Identification Booklet to share with your fellow animal scientists!

Task

You will each be given 12 animals to research. I want you to find the group in which each animal is classified into, and give a brief description as to why they are divided into this group.

Once you find this information, you will record it into your booklets and share what you find with the class!

Good luck exploring!

Process

1.) Think about the features among animals.

Example: What do you think of when you hear the word cat? Pointy ears, furry?

2.) Find the names of each animal classification group.

Use the first resource to do this.

3.) Use the rest of the resources to figure out which animal goes into which group. Be sure to note why they go into each group.

4.) Write your findings in your Animal Classifcation Booklet that I gave to you during class!

Evaluation

You have reached the last step of the quest! Since you have been such great explorers and scientists, I want you to show me how much you learned through this journey!
