Anglo-Irish Treaty

Introduction

Imagine yourself in Dublin, Ireland in 1922. Your country has just won indipendence, but at the cost of many lives. The British government has sent a ceasfire treaty to your government with stipulations attached. Now you wake up every morning hearing arguments in the street with Pro-Treaty and Anti-Treaty sides. Your own family members might turn their backs on eachother, your parents might not speak anymore. 

Task

1. Break into pairs

2. Pick a side, Pro Treaty or Anti Treaty

3. Discuss and write the Pros and Cons of the Anglo-Irish Treaty

4. Write an argument to the Dail Eireann

5. Find another group who chose the other side and try to convince them why they should join your side

6. Every group of four will write what their group finally determined and why

Please take this time to discuss with your partner and discuss which side you will choose. Then find a group with the other side and write the decusion you came to.

Now that you have completed your essay, please hand it into your teacher for grading.
