American State symbols

Introduction

 

In Mrs. Johnson's class you have been learning about Wisconsin and its state symbols. Now you will be looking more closely at one specific state and its symbols.

Task

For this project you will be writing a list on the State's symbols that has been assigned to you. This assignment must include a minimum of four symbols such as the state bird.

Process

You will look on one of the websites that I have suggested and give a list of the symbols witha brief description of why each is a symbol of their state. Your list will look a little like this

  1. Bird--Brown pelican
  2. Flower--Magnolia
  3. Dog--Louisiana catahoula leopard dog. This dog is named after a parish in Louisiana and is bred to find livestock in any type of terrain. Leopard dogs are the only native domesticated North American breed of dog - developed by Indians and early settlers. etc.
  4. Tree--Bald cyprus.

Evaluation

Your paper must include the following: (scored out of 80 points)

At least four symbols from your assigned state.

(ten points each)

A brief description of each symbol (2-4 sentences)

(ten points each)

You may also earn bonus points if you:

Include a picture of each of the symbols you choose. (two points each)
