Introduction
Welcome to the American Library Association Webquest. Throughout this quest you will learn about the importance of the ALA and the types of awards earned by authors and illustrators for children and adults.
The American Library Association (ALA) is an organization founded in 1876 for libraries, librarians, library trustees, and other people interested in libraries.
It works closely with organizations in the fields of education, recreation, and public service. The association's 50,000 members include individuals and libraries from all parts of the world.
The ALA aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of libraries.

Task
Directions: This webquest requires you to research information about the American Library Association (ALA). You will be given a list of questions about The American Library Association (ALA) and the types of book awards that are granted each year.
You are required to work with your research partner and answer all questions in a complete sentence for this webquest.
You and your partner must turn in a separate answer sheet Your teacher will give you a grade prior to exiting the computer lab. Your answer sheet will be your exit ticket from the computer lab.

Process
Step 1: Use your own notebook paper to write the following heading and your answers: Your name, your homeroom teacher's name, and today's date.
Step 2: Your research partner and you must decide who will operate the desktop computer and who will bring a chair to the computer lab.
Step 3: Go to the computer lab and log on to the following link: http://www.ala.org.aboutala/

6. When was the first Laura Ingalls Wilder Award given? Give a description of the medal and who can receive this award honor?
7. Who is the Pura Belpre Awards named after?
8. Who is the 2015 winner of the Coretta Scott King Book Award and what was the name of the book?
9. Who is the 2015 winner of the John Newberry Medal, what was the name of the book, and who was the illustrator?
10. Who is the winner of the Pura Belpre' Illustrator Award for 2015 and what was the name of the book?

Evaluation
- All questions are worth 10 points each
- In order to score 100%, you must write your answers in complete sentences.
- 10 points will be deducted for each answer submitted with incomplete sentences.

Step 7: When your group is finished, do not get out of your seat. Raise your hand to receive a grade from your teacher.
Step 8: Clean up your work station. Log off the computer and return your chair to the library tables.
Step 9: Drop your answer sheet in the red baskets located by the library windows under your homeroom teacher's name. Do not take out your folder. If you do not have a folder please let me know and I will issue you one.
Step 10: If you have time, you may checkin/checkout your library books.
