Process

Joni: Good afternoon. I will be your tour guide today, and we will be traveling back in time to the time of the Civil War. Today, we will be focusing on the African American Soldiers. So, lets get started. Reuben: Good afternoon, I am Reuben Waller. I am an African American Soldier. Another name we are called are Buffalo Soldiers. Us Buffalo Soldiers were different from regular African American Soldiers. We were apart of the 9th and 10th Cavalries. Joni: the name Buffalo soldiers was given to them by the Native Americans. Reuben: they say they gave us that name because we are strong and powerful like buffalo. Also because of our hair.

Joni: The Buffalo Soldiers were founded on September 21, 1866 in Kansas. Reuben: I was apart of the 10th Cavalry. I was in 29 battles in the Civil War. Jonie: In 1866, an act of congress created all six African American army units. Reuben: we enlisted for five years and only received 13 dollars a month.
