Active and Passive Verbs

Introduction

You will be creating an Interactive Verb Observation Chart by the end of this webquest.  You will use various news sources and find example sentences.  Then, you will tell whether the sentences you found are active or passive voice.  

Task

First, you need to open a blank doc in another tab and number from 1 to 5. Name it the following: Your Last Name.APVerbs  Then, you need to copy and paste the following link into another tab:

 Then, you will use the following sites to find example sentences.  

Process

First, type the example sentences in your Doc.  Then, go to the Interactive Verb tab. 

The Interactive Verb Observation Chart will ask you for to enter the following:

  • Name: Enter your first and last name 
  • Title: Call it Active and Passive Verbs
  • How many rows would you like on your chart? 5

NEXT

The chart will have the following labels: 

  1. Subject
  2. Verb (including helping verbs) 
  3. Active or Passive? 
  • Under subject, pick out the subject from your first sentence and type it in the box.
  • Under Verb (including helping verb), find the action of the sentence and type it in the box.
  • Under Active or Passive, tell whether the sentence is Active or Passive.  

Repeat this process for all 5 example sentences you have chosen. 

When you are done, select Finish.  You will be prompted to put your name.  Put your first and last name and select Print.  

When it takes you to the page with your completed chart, rigth click and select Save As.  Save the file as LastName.Chart and share it with me.  You also need to share your 5 sentences in your Doc.  

When you have done this, you have finished!  Get your AR book out and read.  

Evaluation

I will be grading this assignment based three things:

1) Do you have 5 example sentences?

2) Is the chart completely filled out?

3) Do you have the active/passive voice answers correct.
