Aboriginal culture

Introduction

Students research various aspects of Aboriginal culture before European settlement and give a presentation to the local council describing what this area of aboriginal culture is and why we should embrace it more in our community (why is it important).

Aboriginal culture has been lost due to European settlement and it is your job to help bring it back!! Your local council has highlighted that Aboriginal culture is not included and embraced enough within the community. However, they are willing to make changes to ensure that it is and this is all up to you!

Task

Choose one of the following topics to focus on; ceremonies and rituals, dance, music and art, kinship or sacred sites. Create a presentation (this can be with a computer program or students using props and/or other resources) that showcases your chosen aspect of Aboriginal culture. You will need to explain what your aspect of Aboriginal culture is, what it means to Aboriginal people and why it is important. This will then be presented to the local council (your peers and teacher).

You must use at least one local source that connects

to Aboriginal culture that has and/or still does exist within our community! This could be information from a local museum or other local website.

Process

Part 1: Pick one aspect of Aboriginal culture to focus on (ceremonies and rituals, dance, music and art, kinship or sacred sites).

Part 2: Create a plan of what information you need to find to achieve the brief and how you plan to present your work.

Step by step intructions.

Part 3: Explore these websites to begin your research then bring all the information that you have researched together and answer the brief (what the Aboriginal culture aspect is, information about it and why it is important)
